(Local) Citation, Citation, Citation

[box type="shadow"]Just as the old saying goes…  ”the three most important factors of buying a house are location, location, location.”  SEO companies alike agree that building citations around the web is one of the most important factors that will help you improve your local search and Google places rankings.

Search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo use multiple formulas to determine how the results of a search are displayed.  One of the most important aspects of winning a local search on one of these popular search engines is to have citations.  Citations are digital “mentions” of a business name, address, and phone number.  Just as a link to a website helps build trust and credibility with search engines, a citation helps verify the three most distinct properties of a business (name, address, and phone number).

If the other factors of a search are equal, a business with more correct citations will more than likely rank higher in searches.

Not sure how to get more citations?

There are useful tools online that can help you find which websites and directories your local competition is on.  Check out one of the better free local citation finder tools for ideas and suggestions of websites that do not have your information yet.  It will even list the top ten maps listings (your competition) and which websites they already have citations on.  This is a great way to catch up to your local competition and build more quality citations.

Citations also act as a way to verify a belonging to a city, town, or community.  It is difficult to use a fake address and phone number to be listed within the chamber of commerce or a popular local business group.

Now get out there and build your local citations to help improve your rankings![/box]
