This afternoon, we noticed an update to the top portion of Google Places listings. They have done away with the massive Facebook style cover photo in favor of a smaller image, with the business image, name, address, and hours on the left of the page.
Google has been tweaking the design at the top of Google Places and Google + Business pages pretty consistently since the launch of Google +. Businesses that do not upload a cover photo will have this real estate devoted to a large map with their location on it.
Businesses that have a cover photo will now have the image displayed in the map location. Before this update the dimensions of the cover photo were a whopping 2120 x 1192 pixels. They have changed their dimensions to around 920 x 518 pixels. The area behind the logo and business name is transparent and displays the cover photo behind it.
Google is constantly changing the aesthetics of their local listings. Keep an eye on our blog for the latest changes within Google Places and Google +!
